Abstract

In the state of Bihar, the Population Council has been rigorously evaluating the JEEViKA Technical Support Program (JTSP) which supports JEEViKA in scaling up the layering of health, nutrition, and sanitation messaging by providing techno-managerial support across all the blocks in order to bring about system-level changes. This dataset captures elements of the capacity that have been built of the community mobilizers who are trained by JTSP staff to share health, nutrition, and sanitation messages with women in self-help groups (SHG). Data were collected using a cross-sectional survey design conducted between September to November 2017. Community mobilizers were identified randomly across 1 block each from 7 (out of 11) districts of Bihar, where JEEViKA has established SHGs. Also, from the remaining non-SHG districts, 1 block each from 3 districts were select randomly. In total, community mobilizers (418 among JTSP blocks and 176 among non-JTSP blocks) were interviewed across the 10 blocks. Data were collected using structured tools, administered in Hindi using a mobile–based data entry application. Community mobilizers provided information on the capacity building they had received, how they were carrying out their duties, and time management with a focus on layering health, nutrition and sanitation programming.
