Abstract

El embarazo no deseado y el aborto constituyen causas importantes de morbimortalidad en mujeres en edad reproductiva de la región de América Latina y el Caribe. Las raíces socio-políticas de estos problemas, que se encuentran interrelacionadas, son complejas; pero con el tiempo se ha tornado evidente el hecho de que una posible solución a estos problemas de salud de las mujeres es que la comunidad de investigadores se involucre más y plantee soluciones, y que organice reuniones en las que se de amplia difusión a estas problemáticas. En el presente documento ofrecemos un resumen de la II Reunión de investigación sobre embarazo no deseado y aborto inseguro, celebrada en la ciudad de México, del 17 al 19 de agosto de 2005. Fueron variadas las expresiones de este encuentro: inauguración, conferencias magistrales, presentación y análisis de hallazgos de investigaciones, demostración de instrumentos, exposición de carteles, proyección de videos, propuestas para transitar de la investigación a la acción y clausura.

Unwanted pregnancy and abortion are important causes of morbidity and mortality in women of reproductive age in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The socio-political roots of these problems, which are interrelated, are complex; but over time it has become evident that a possible solution to these women’s health problems is for the research community to become more involved and propose solutions, and to organize meetings in which these problems are widely disseminated. In this document we offer a summary of the Second Meeting of Investigation on Unwanted Pregnancy and Unsafe Abortion, held in Mexico City, from 17–19 August 2005. The expressions of this meeting were varied: opening, keynote addresses, presentation and analysis of research findings, instrument demonstration, poster exhibition, video projection, proposals to move from research to action, and closure.
