Abstract

Le Manuel de recherche opérationnelle en matière de planification familiale, publié pour la première fois en anglais par le Population Council en 1984, se basait sur des projets de recherche en Asie. Cette seconde édition contient des sections révisées et développées. Le cas échéant, des exemples d'Amérique latine et d'Afrique ont été ajoutés. Le chapitre d'introduction comprend une exposé actualisé sur le processus de la recherche opérationnelle (RO) en matière de santé et planification familiale. De nouveaux chapitres concernent le choix du type d’intervention à tester dans une étude RO ainsi que les principaux éléments constituant un programme d'intervention. Le chapitre sur la diffusion de l'information a été développé et un nouveau chapitre sur l'utilisation des résultats de la recherche a été ajouté. Le livre a été conçu pour aider les chercheurs en matière de santé et de planification familiale à concevoir et à rédiger un projet de recherche détaillé. Il vise aussi à aider les administrateurs et les directeurs de programme à mieux appréhender le principe de la RO et les possibilités d’utilisation des résultats pour l'amélioration des prestations de services. Bien que le livre ne soit pas un document sur les méthodes de recherche, il fournit des concepts et des méthodes clés pour la mise on oeuvre des études sur le terrain.

The Handbook for Family Planning Operations Research Design, first published in English by the Population Council in 1983, was based on field research studies in Asia. This second edition contains revised and expanded sections. Where appropriate, examples from Latin America and Africa have been added. The introductory section contains a current statement on the process of health and family planning operations research (OR). New chapters have been included on selecting an appropriate intervention to test in an OR study, and on describing the main elements of the study intervention. The chapter on information dissemination has been expanded and a new chapter on the utilization of research findings has been added. The book is designed to help health and family planning researchers develop and write a detailed OR proposal. It also aims to help program administrators and managers understand the process of OR and the uses of research findings for service-delivery improvement. Although the book is not a text on research methods, it does provide key concepts and important methods essential to conducting field research studies.
