Abstract

El Índice de Estigma de las personas que viven con el VIH, desarrollado en 2008, es una encuesta utilizada para identificar el estigma y la discriminación que enfrentan las PVVIH. Desarrollado y administrado por y para las PVVIH, el Índice de Estigma es más que un simple instrumento de medición, e espera que su ejecución empodere a PVVIH. En 2016-17, el consorcio de investigación liderado por el Population Council, el Proyecto SOAR, actualizó el Índice de Estigma a modo de reflejar los cambios en la respuesta mundial ante el VIH durante la última década. La nueva versión (Stigma Index 2.0) ahora se centra cada vez más en las experiencias de las PVVIH que acceden a servicios espécificos para el VIH; el uso y la adhesión al tratamiento antirretroviral; la salud mental y resiliencia; y el estigma en sitios de atención médica. La implementación del Índice de Estigma 2.0 en la República Dominicana (RD) fue liderada por las PVVIH. Los resultados actualizan los resultados del Índice de Estigma original presentado en la RD hace más de una década. Con la inclusión de módulos sobre salud mental, contenido ampliado sobre experiencias en sitios de atención de la salud y reclutamiento intencional de HSH, FSW y PVVIH de ascendencia haitiana, el Índice de Estigma 2.0 arroja luz sobre los desafíos y oportunidades actuales relacionados con el estigma relacionado con el VIH en el RD, como se detalla en este informe.

The People Living with HIV Stigma Index, developed in 2008, is a survey instrument used to highlight stigma and discrimination experienced by PLHIV. Developed and administered by and for PLHIV, the Stigma Index is not merely a measurement tool, its implementation is intended to be an empowering experience for PLHIV. In 2016–17, the Population Council–led research consortium Project SOAR updated the Stigma Index to reflect changes in the global HIV response in the past decade. The new version (Stigma Index 2.0) now has an increased focus on PLHIV’s experiences accessing HIV services; using and adhering to antiretroviral services; mental health and resilience; and stigma within health-care settings. Implementation of Stigma Index 2.0 in the Dominican Republic (DR) was led by PLHIV. Findings update results from the original Stigma Index fielded in the DR more than a decade ago. With the inclusion of modules on mental health, expanded content on experiences in health-care settings, and intentional recruitment of MSM, FSWs, and PLHIV of Haitian descent, Stigma Index 2.0 sheds light on ongoing challenges and opportunities regarding HIV-related stigma in the DR, as detailed in this report.
